In Windsor-Essex County we have the first community based palliative care (that means care for people who are dying) village in North America: The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County Inc. The Hospice has a village in Windsor and is building a new Residential Home in Leamington called the Erie Shores Campus.

The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County was created to offer compassionate end of life care. The Hospice Village services are for patients and their families who are dealing with a life-altering diagnosis. This could include multiple sclerosis, Lou Gehrig’s disease, COPD, ALS, cancer and many more.

The Hospice has many different programs and services that are open to people from the pre-diagnosis to the bereavement stage. The services offered by The Hospice are at no cost to the patient or family.

Their staff includes doctors, nurses, social workers, spiritual care providers and volunteers. Their program helps with the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of the patient and his/her family.

You are able to refer yourself to The Hospice or be referred by a doctor.
