Documents to Bring


When you arrive in Canada you will need to bring certain documents. These documents must be up to date.

These include:

  • Your Confirmation of Permanent Residence for each person travelling with you
  • A Canadian Immigrant Visa (if you have one)
  • Valid passports for each person that is travelling with you
  • Two copies of a detailed list of the belongings that you have brought with you. You must have their value in Canadian funds
  • A list of the items that will be arriving later and their value. You may be asked to show proof of funds. Please note that you must tell a border official if you are carrying more than $10,000 in Canadian currency.

You will also want to make sure that you bring the following documents:

  • Birth Certificate or adoption papers
  • Family records (this includes documents like marriage certificates or divorce papers)
  • Medical records (this includes documents like immunization records)
  • Dental records
  • Official school records for your children
  • Diplomas, degrees and transcripts
  • Academic credentials evaluation report (if your education was assessed before you came to Canada)
  • Reference letters from both previous and current employers
  • Professional or trade licenses or qualification certificates
  • A current résumé
  • Driver’s license or other identification documents
  • Vehicle registration documents if you are importing a vehicle into Canada
